cashier for life

i worked all weekend and it was mad crazy at the store. 2nd last weekend before christmas and we bring back a popular promotion we haven't had in ages, so it was even busier than we might have expected. i basically was a cashier or a bagger all weekend, and it was awesome. i definitely don't mind doing monotonous work for a few days, and i love being on cash. when i was little, i used to want to be a cashier when i grew up because i loved pressing buttons. i still love pushing buttons, but i don't want to be a cashier when i grow up.

i'm a pretty cheerful person, so the customers were appreciative of my demeanour. and i'm fast, so people are in and out in a flash, if they're lucky enough to get me as their cashier. if there was an olympic event for cashier skills, i'd win gold.

if i could make a comfortable living being a cashier, and by comfortable, i mean making enough money to support the lifestyle i have and want to have, i'd be a cashier for life. but so would everyone else.

so for all you people still christmas shopping, be nice to the cashier because chances are, they've had a few crabby customers before you. and people aren't paid enough to take your shit.

  • Di, I remember the Bay days. I can sympathize. I've had little kids pee their pants on our floors and in the change rooms, and elderly folk who couldn't make it fast enough to the bathroom and crapped themselves. There was actually poo on the floor. The people who had to clean that up, I hope they are paid enough to take their shit.

  • oh i've heard stories about customers peeing and pooing in the store too! i thought it was a rare occasion, but i've heard it from a few stores already. what's the deal with that?!?! i hope it's not just our stores and happens to other retailers too.

  • Chances are good that somebody has. I've even thought a couple was having some conjugal visits in one of the changerooms. And then one time a transsexual wanted to try on a women's bathing suit in the women's changeroom, and one of us told him/her to go upstairs. What is the protocol on that? We knew it was a man still b/c s/he had facial hair still. At least shave if you're trying to become a woman. yeah. good old days. I had blocked out some of those events...good luck di!

  • yes, i have been told about a few fitting rooms where people or their children have peed on the floor, and the carpet is still stained.

speaking of poo, someone told me about one time when an employee got caught stealing, and she pooed when they came to take her away, but she was wearing a skirt and nylons so it was all stuck in the nylons down her leg! hahahahaah

good thing i'm out of the stores soon.
